BLOG: THE BUILD OF HMP729G

BLOG 1: FINDING A 1969 MINI COOPER
It was like finding a needle in a hay stack, what seemed simple - find a 1969 Austin Mini Cooper that could be converted back to a Mk1. We lost count of how many Coopers we looked at, with plenty of them in pretty poor condition. Then we found this little gem. A 1969 Mk2, original floor/ boot floor. The only negative areas were the fact that at some point in its life someone put the awful over cills on. So they will be the first item to come off and be replaced. It's been hard to ensure we used 'real' Mini Coopers for the three replicas, as to use a standard MK1 would not have been true to the original specifications of the film Coopers, but we're getting there just a Island Blue Cooper or Cooper S for LGW809G to find.
NOTE: All three Coopers will retain their original Cooper engines, which will be rebuilt to 1275cc. That way we are also retaining film originality in terms of specifications confirmed by Remy. It would have been easier to simply use a standard 1275cc Metro engine, but that would be the easy route. So far GPF and HMP have used original engines, hopefully we'll find a Cooper S with a 1275cc for LGW.

BLOG 2:
After more work on our HMP donor Cooper, we now found out that the shell in better condition than first appeared...great stuff! and quite a rare occasion when rebuilding a classic cooper. What will we find next?? Find out next blog....>>

BLOG 3:
Bonus again ....the seats in HMP are the very rare high shovel back seats, so these will be sold to finance the purchase of the Mk1 Austin Cooper interior from our great friends at Newton Commercial, note to self - make a long list and call johny.

BLOG 4:
The 'list of parts' grows ever longer, but we're now onto the last Cooper of the set so its got to be done. It seems the most awkward item to get at the moment are stainless steel Mk1 bumper sets, seems to be a world shortage.
Great news ....Mini Spares have come up trumps and found us a complete Mk1 bumper set with over riders and corner bars - superb!
