BLOG: THE BUILD OF GPF146G

BLOG 1: FINDING A SUITABLE 1969 MINI
As always, first things first... we make a list, first item find a 1968-69 mini that has fittings /trim at the point where Mk1 items were being used to complete early Mk2's. As always Austin and Morris raided the parts bins when completing end of line minis, changing between marks. Will we find a '69 in the correct colour of Old English White?
It's been hard to ensure we used 'real' Mini Coopers for the three replicas, as to use a standard MK1 would not have been true to the original specifications of the film Coopers, but we're getting there just a Island Blue Cooper or Cooper S for LGW809G to find.
NOTE: All three Coopers will retain their original Cooper engines, which will be rebuilt to 1275cc. That way we are also retaining film originality in terms of specifications confirmed by Remy. It would have been easier to simply use a standard 1275cc Metro engine, but that would be the easy route. So far GPF and HMP have used original engines, hopefully we'll find a Cooper S with a 1275cc for LGW.

Superb ! we find the exact shell we need literally on our doorstep. So it was out with the trailer and off to pick up GPF to be! A late early 69 Cooper shell, although this one had got MK2 rear lights at some point in its life! ...soon sorted with new MK1 lights correctly fitted back into place.

The build has taken quite some time, longer than expected... but that seems to always be the way of all things Mini ! Anyway, we are now out of the paint shop and fitting the nice new shiny parts from M-Machine and Mini Spares - LOVELY !

The engine build and fitting has been quite a mammoth task, Peter has done a superb job as always and it looks and goes superbly. Ian has come up trumps with the body work and changed the rear lights back to MK1. The lamp bars go on, but they need replacing again as the geometry is not spot on. Time to call Remy and check a few more details.

Quote: ' There maybe Italian Job look-a-likes around, but when you see David's in the flesh, you realise that he has taken the concept of 're-creation' to a whole new level .....of course there's one other detail that no other mini could ever match - namely the registration GPF146G'.
